About April Maloney, NP

April Maloney, MSN, CPNP-PC | Pediatric Nurse Practitioner & Founder of RISE Pediatrics

April Maloney has spent nearly two decades caring for children and supporting families, but her approach to medicine was shaped just as much by her own experience as a mom as it was by her clinical training.

Like many parents, April found herself searching for answers for her own child, moving from specialist to specialist, often leaving appointments with more questions than clarity. She understands the frustration of asking “why” and feeling like there has to be more beneath the surface. When traditional approaches didn’t bring the relief she was hoping for, she began exploring deeper, more root-cause–focused ways of understanding health.

That journey changed everything.

It strengthened her belief that symptoms are often just the surface and that true healing begins by understanding the “why” behind them.

April began her career in healthcare in the emergency room while still in nursing school, later advancing into pediatric trauma care at Children’s National Medical Center. While she valued the fast-paced, life-saving work, she felt increasingly drawn to prevention, wanting to help families before they reached a crisis point.

After earning her Master’s in Nursing from The Catholic University of America, she continued her work in pediatrics and eventually specialized in pediatric obesity medicine through the IDEAL clinic at Children’s National. There, she saw firsthand how powerful individualized, ongoing support could be in helping children truly thrive.

But she also saw what was missing.

Short visits. Limited time. Families trying their best but without the guidance, support, or deeper understanding they needed to create lasting change.

Throughout her career, April has felt a strong pull toward teaching, helping families understand their child’s health from the ground up, starting with the foundation. She believes parents deserve clear answers, time to ask questions, and a provider who looks beyond quick fixes.

That’s why she created RISE Pediatrics.

At RISE, care is different. April partners closely with families to uncover root causes, connect the dots, and build sustainable, personalized plans. She combines evidence-based medicine with a more holistic, thoughtful approach focusing not just on weight or symptoms, but on the whole child.

She has chosen not to work with insurance companies so she can spend the time each family truly deserves, listening, educating, and supporting them every step of the way.

Above all, April wants families to feel seen, heard, and empowered, because when parents understand the “why,” they are better equipped to help their children grow into healthy, confident, thriving individuals.
