On a Mission to Make Pediatric Obesity Care More Compassionate and Proactive
That rushed visit where you left with more questions than answers? You and your child deserve better. At RISE, we start by understanding your child’s world so we can create a plan that truly supports your family.
Welcome to RISE Pediatrics
RISE Pediatrics is a pediatric weight management clinic in Annapolis, Maryland offering specialized obesity and weight management care for children and teens.
If you’re here, you’ve likely already tried to get help—only to leave short visits feeling rushed, dismissed, or blamed. I see you. You’re not asking for too much. You’re simply looking for a place where someone finally listens, explains, and walks alongside your family.
Founded by pediatric nurse practitioner April Maloney, MSN, CPNP-PC, RISE provides high-quality, compassionate care that goes beyond what’s possible in a typical medical visit. Each child receives a personalized care plan that supports lasting change—from medical evaluation to behavior counseling, nutrition guidance, and more.
At RISE, we partner with families so kids can feel better, move more comfortably, and grow into their healthiest, most confident selves.
RISE uses a comprehensive, multi-level approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and behavioral sides of weight management—because your child is more than a number on the scale.
-

Full Physical & Medical Evaluation
We start with a thorough evaluation to understand your child’s health, history, and risk factors so we can create a safe, evidence-based plan that fits their needs.
-

Nutrition & Physical Activity Counseling
Instead of strict rules or diets, we focus on realistic changes your family can actually maintain—aligned with your culture, preferences, and schedule.
-

Behavior Modification Support
We help kids and families build skills, routines, and coping strategies that support sustainable progress over time, not quick fixes that don’t last.
-

Referrals to Specialists
When needed, we coordinate with trusted specialists so your child’s care is unified and every piece of their health is considered.
We don’t just treat symptoms or chase the scale—we work with families to understand root causes, set realistic goals, and track progress together in a supportive, judgment-free environment.
We chose the name RISE because it reflects what we want for every child who walks through our doors.
Reflect on current health
Integrate new habits
Self-actualize by realizing one’s full potential
Embrace their authentic selves
This process helps children build a strong foundation for lifelong wellness—body, mind, and self-esteem.
Why It Matters
RISE helps families move from frustration and fear to hope and progress.
Childhood obesity is a chronic health condition with real, long-term risks—joint pain, fatigue, disordered sleep, mental distress, metabolic changes, and more. But it’s also deeply emotional for kids and families. Many parents carry worry, guilt, or shame on top of everything else they’re juggling.
Early, thoughtful, and effective care can change the trajectory of a child’s health and confidence. At RISE, we create space for honest conversations, individualized plans, and steady support so your child can move toward a healthier future—one step at a time.
The goal?
Kids who feel stronger, more comfortable in their bodies, and secure knowing their future is filled with possibility.
RISE is designed for families seeking compassionate, proactive pediatric obesity care that fits real life. We may be the right fit if:
Your child or teen (ages 2–21) is living with obesity or weight-related health concerns.
You’ve been told “they’ll grow out of it,” but you know they need more support.
Past appointments left you feeling rushed, dismissed, or without a real plan.
You want more than “eat less, move more”—you want clear, doable steps tailored to your family.
You’re open to a science-based approach that may include lifestyle changes and, when appropriate, medication.
Your child is struggling with confidence, teasing, or weight-related stigma.
You’re looking for long-term partnership, not a quick fix.
If any of this sounds like your family, you’re in the right place.

Meet April Maloney, NP
With nearly 20 years in pediatric healthcare, April started RISE to create the kind of care families deserve: unhurried, holistic, and focused on prevention. After working in ERs, pediatric trauma, and outpatient obesity clinics, she saw the power of early intervention—and wanted to do more.
At RISE, April works directly with families, offering the time, expertise, and encouragement needed to support real change.
